Seeking advice on two separate items.

    Wiper blade description .
My original wiper arm is 240mm in length with a locking mechanics that I have no idea what it is called. Online they talk about Spoon, pin and some others, but can someone tell me what blade I need to order to suit this type of fitting?

Advice on fitting the 4X4 lever spring.

I tried to fit the spring that holds the yellow topped 4x4 rob selector up. Compressing this spring takes huge effort, around 40 kg of force at a guess. I get it close then it slips and shoots the strong off which takes some time to re-find. I've retrieved the spring about 10 times and lost a lot of skin, but just cannot seem to compress the spring enough to screw the yellow knob on.
There must be a special technique to doing this without injuring yourself.

Any advice or help, hugely appreciated.

    regards

Can you prop up the shaft from underneath so it's at it's maximum height position before you put any downward force on it?

The wiper blade to suit your arm is like this one R (21)wiper blade.jpgthe Lucas P/N is 727803 there is also a rubber plug fits into the round hole to stop the blade coming off the arm when the arm is lifted the Lucas P/N 727701.

As already stated, push the threaded rod up from under the vehicle, there i also a lock nut that goes on top of the spring & under the yellow knob, you need to be able to adjust the spring tension & lock the nut & knob together.

As Larry says, hold it from underneath to push up as far as possible. There is next to no spring compression when fully up.

Of course, if your floor is still one piece as an 86" floor is, getting access to the underneath whilst screwing on the knob can be a challenge! You might need a helper.

Hi Chris, your comment that " There is next to no spring compression when fully up" has me stumped.
As you can see from the photo, my spring is double the height of the rod, so even with the rod jammed to its highest point, my spring must be compressed by at least 80 to 90mm, so I must have the wrong length spring.
Can anyone tell em what the uncompressed spring length is on their 4x4 selector is

    regards
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff.
May be not fully uncompressed, but I do recall not having any issues putting the knob on once I'd reached under and fully raised the rod. Definitely much higher than the rod position in your photo, so much less spring compression required.

4 wheel drive selector shaft spring

So, I am still stumped by the 4 wheel drive selector shaft spring issue.
I have checked with 3 independent suppliers, and the spring I have is correct for part number 561221 and is 190mm tall. However, my selector shaft at full lift, protrudes 95mm above its base, meaning I have 95mm of spring that needs to be compressed before I can even consider screwing on the yellow top.

When I acquire the car, it did not have a spring fitting to the selector rod, and I simply selected low range to enable 4x4.

However I'd like to get the system working as designed, but either my spring is too long or my selector rod is too short.

Would someone be prepared to measure theirs for me? I could conceivably cut the spring down however I'd really like to known which of the two possibilities in correct and which is incorrect.

    many thanks in advance

    Hi Jeff,
Is the car in Hi 4WD? IE is the rod for the yellow knob pushed down? If so you'll never get that spring on.

Without the spring there would be nothing to pop the rod back up.

I can't remember if the yellow knob pops up when you select low range or when you go back to hi range.

    It's decades since I drove a series.

Yes Jeff, check what Tony says. The box may be stuck in 4wd? Pull up on the rod and move the H-L range back and forth several times to ensure that it is released up.
