    URGENT HELP NEEDED !

    Hi all,

    2009 disc 3 , v6 petrol

I am trying to take off this stupid fan so I can get to the belt and replace it.

I am seeing on youtube that to take off the clutch fan belt, when standing Infront of the car, turn the 36 mm tool to the right.

    Is this correct?

I am using the pray bar and land rover 36 mm tool and it is not budging, I cannot believe it is that tight.

The one my discovery 2 comes off like a butter.

I have feeling I might also have to by this to attach 2 bolts on the water pump pulley ?

    Need advise asap.

    Thank you.

Try a couple of sharp strikes on the spanner with a hammer…

    Shock often gets it loose.

They can get tight- especially if some goose has put loctite on them! To ensure you're turning the right way (and I don't know which way is right for your engine) make sure you're turning the fan (nut) in the same direction it turns when running- you can tell by looking at the way the blades are oriented. It varies with different engines and belt arrangements. To hold the pulley, any homebrew arrangement of flat bar with holes that fit over the heads of two of the bolts. See here for some examples examples TDV6 fan pulley holder tool it doesn't have to be pretty, just has to somehow capture 2 bolt heads and have a handle. Mine is exceedingly ugly and took less time to make than to post this reply.

    Thank you all..

I've been swearing every English engineer that ever lived... did my head in.

So you are saying I should be turning the 36 mm spanner tool to the left of me when standing Infront of the car?

See, v6 different to v8 and diesel engine...

Thanks Pod I will look at that too..

i made a bracket that uses 2 of the pulley bolts and then rests against the engine to hold it while undoing the fan- TDV6 that is but same principle will work.

    Hi all,

Please see pic below. Taken from the front of the car

I am not attempting to do this unless I am 100% sure which way to turn the 36 mm.

What a bastard , something so simple..

The blades pull air by turning anti-clockwise, so unscrew in the same direction, ie turn the spanner to the left from the top.

Notwithstanding that you've been trying in the wrong direction, it will probably still loosen with only a gentle tap.
