    Stromberg on a 179

    Hi All,
I have a 179 in my S1 and the Stromberg was rebuilt about 5 years ago, ran perfectly until a few weeks back, thought it was the old fuel pump, so new fuel pump and filter and still no go. Pulled the top of the Stromberg and the float bowl was dry, filled it up and it ran fine until this morning. Same issue float bowl empty but runs fine after filling up. Before I buy a carby kit I thought I'd see if any of the brains trust had an idea what might be going on?
    Cheers
    Jason

Check the needle valve and seat. You used to be able to buy them separately.
Less likely, ensure the float is free.
Make sure the tank is venting and the pick-up is not blocked.
You've probably already done so but, check that there is petrol in the tank.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Thanks guys, just bought a needle and seat for 25 bucks so we'll see how that goes, makes sense if its stuck closed, the bowl runs out of fuel and then she stops...

    Hello Jason,

Please keep us updated about how the new needle and seat goes with fixing up your carburetor.

    Kind regards
    Lionel
