Help need a new tire x 1 will it stuffed my transfer case.

Hi all I have heard that you can stuff your transfer case of you put a new tire on when the other 3 are worn. Is this the case. I am in WA 2500km from home and have a small leak. In one Which needs to get sorted I am arriving at Busselton tomorrow who have a good selection of tire shops should I replace the 2 rear ones or all 4 they where going to be replaced when I got home.
The spare is ok but was also going to be replaced when I got home also. Some advise would be helpful cheers all

No. The transfer case will care when a pair of tyres at one end vary significantly to the other axle, but a difference one one axle only will be accounted for by the diff. It’s still not a great idea.

Fix the leaky one, even if it needs a tube. Sort the tyres when you get home. JMO.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Fitting 1 new tyre whilst the other 3 are worn won't cause any issues providing it is the same size specification and the same construction, ie passenger or light truck.

No I don’t think so it is the factory fitted one.

I'd suggest this isnt quite so Graeme - from experience.

Same brand, same model, same size, same contruction in a HT or similar will be fine becuase the tread depth new is quite low anyway.

If running a chunky AT or above, then depending on the wear of the other tyres - I can assure you the vehicle WILL start to react to it. Especially when cornering etc
I had to fit a brand new spare to a vehicle with 80% worn rubber all round and the DSC could be felt influencing the vehicle.

Valid point. Diffs won’t care but the difference in size can send the DSC into a quandary.

My L322 didn't care when one 30" tyre was test-run with the other three almost 32", obviously less sensitive than D4s.

Notwithstanding any DSC activation, the diffs wouldn't be bothered by 1 new tyre and 3 worn ones.
