Tips and Tricks for fitting new front door latches 1993 110 Ute

Hello All,

I am going to finally fit the new door latch internal mechanisms on Snowy my 1993 Defender 110 ute. I found them again after they come in and out of hiding in their non-de-script cardboard boxes. They were bought a couple of years ago - then they go into hiding again. I found them while I was looking for something else. The parts I am referring to are the internal 'guts' of the door lock mechanism that you have to take the door card off to access.

The lack of earlier proper adjustment while in the hands of the previous owner, meant that the driver's door inside door locking tab must have dropped down each time the farmer had to slam the door to close it. The farmer's solution to the problem was to remove the plastic knob and the steel rod that led to the main door mechanism. Meanwhile the door continues to get slammed shut.

On the other side of the car, the passenger door opens every time you make a turn.

So, I have a lot of neglect to make up for which prompted me to buy new door lock/latch mechanisms. They are scheduled to be fitted over the weekend. Some tips and tricks would be most greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your vote of confidence. We both know from working on Land Rovers that it can be the jobs that seem to be both simple and straight forward that turn around and open Pandora's box. Then down the rabbit hole we go. Soon as we utter the words, "I'll just do this quick job", the fickle hand of fate springs towards us. Along with Pandora and some rabbits who dislike us disturbing their place of dwelling.
