Car SOS - Land Rover series I

Watched car SOS last night (ABC Entertains).

Another Wheeler Dealers type program but each one seems to have a sob story behind it.

Last night was an 80" Series I that had been used in competitions. 2.25 diesel, aircraft turbo, Series III axles plus a few other mods.
John Craddock wasn't that 'impressed' by it.

I've been watching Car SOS on free-to-air and also catching up on ABC iView.

Not enough on the restoration in each case but still interesting.
There are a few cars that really should have been scrapped but they throw money at them and bring them back to life. Makes you wonder how many cars are sitting in garages because the owner can't fix it but doesn't want to sell it.

The show is a bit more 'honest' compared to Wheeler Dealers. There are multiple people working on the car and engines are often sent out for reconditioning.

It's an old series from the UK and has been running for a while.

    Just watched the following :-
    Renault Alpine.
    Sunbeam Alpine
    Bond Bug.
    Porsche 911
    Austin Tilley truck.
    Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.
Fiat 500 - They went to Italy for a replacement shell and got to drive on the Fiat test track (Lingotto) on the roof of the old factory !

Looks like 120 episodes in total.

I have also been watching it - I like it although the pranks/sob stories get a bit thin after a while.

I said to my wife last night “I wish somebody would do that to my 2DR RRC” here in OZ..

    93 Discovery 1 200 Tdi - Club Rego

Maybe AULRO should create a TV show.... You or Gav as host, and Dave Fare on the spanners...... My SIII 109 could use the Rover Reno treatment. All we need is some sponsor money, or about a million subscribers.

Until I moved back to Australia, I used to watch this pretty much from the start on BBC tv.

Some interesting projects, many of them a worthy effort for the owners. One poor bugger passed away before his car was completed.

But, like many interesting tv programs, it is completely ruined by that idiot Tim Shaw!
On some occasions it surprises me that Fuzz Townshend doesn't snotter the idiot!

Same format as Wheeler Dealers, a mechanic and a cock.

There are loads of incorrect statements but maybe I'm not the market they are aiming at.
In Car SOS the Series I - Fuzz said the leaking turbo could cause a hydraulic lock ???? They then re-fitted it without replacing the seals as they weren't available !

Wheeler Dealers - Ant calling a split pin a cotter pin ! Two very different items.

The list goes on & on..........

Tim Shaw is a dick, the stupid made up stunts to get discounts are annoying, but he does seem fairly genuine when it comes to the handover.
Mike Brewer knowing everyone ! Really ?

The shows are aimed at the average viewer, those of us frequenting this forum (well most of us) aren't the market the shows are aimed at.

Car SOS must have been a threat to Wheeler Dealers ?
Just saw Wheeler Dealers Dream Cars which is on a similar format just that they fix & flip vehicles to get to what the person wants.

Seems it only lasted 2 years so couldn't have been that successful.

Cotter pin is the American term for a split pin and the show was being made in the US when Ant was involved

Yes. Cotter pin, frost plug, sodder, the list goes on. Although the American spell check doesn't like "sodder", it's what they say.

Tins, I think you need a drink of wadder to calm down!

I record the programme and then decide which episode I want to watch. I delete quite a few. I missed the Series I episode. I'll look it up on iView.

The MGA should have been dumped, not "restored".
