Ok - being a RRS has put people off on posting - so lets change the vehicle to a Bi - Xenon equipped D3 - same question
My headlights are getting a bit dull, most likely a combination of the globes and the light housing lens is pretty faded. I will put new globes in and change the light housing lens to a set of brand new clear ones, but I am also concerned about the low beam projector lens.
Can these become dirty and if so what is the best way to clean them while I have the headlamp housings apart. I cannot remember if my projector lens was originally clear or opaque but it is certainly opaque now.
Any advice on the projectors would be appreciated.
Thanks
Garry

SupporterI have 2008 RRS with bi-xenon headlights.
My internal lenses are opaque and I didn't even think to look to see if they can be cleaned when I changed the exterior clear cover. Before changing the clear cover I had changed the xenon bulbs and that made a huge difference to light output. I had after that read that xenon bulbs degrade over time. I don't know if the internal lens is meant to be clear or opaque so that doesn't really answer your question except that mine are still opaque and i am happy with my lights the way they are.
I later replaced the separate high beam bulbs when one died with good LED ones and that added some extra light as well.
While the clear cover was off I painted the grey plastic to black and that makes the headlights look much nicer.

Thanks for that - I could not remember if my projectors were originally clear or opaque but like yours they are opaque now so they must have been like that all the time.
I have new HIDs in the projectors and Stedl LEDS in the high beams but both are pretty ordinary.
Cheers
Garry

SubscriberHi Garry, the housing, you mean the outer plastic enclosure for the lights? I have the same issue. Tried to get them rejuvenated a few months ago with limited success. Is it actually possibly to just buy and replace the outer plastic casing? A few years back one of the Xenon bulbs died and I replaced them both with Osram Xenon bulbs. Working well, but still, even just for the aesthetics, I would like to get the plastic cover looking less faded (ideally replace). Though replacing the entire unit is very expensive I believe.

Sascha
PowerfulUK sells them for some models
Yes I have new light housing lenses ready to go in - they cost $170 for the pair including shipping off ebay.

FWIW, I recently performed the lens surgery successfully. The lenses are branded LR. The outcome was very satisfying - the lanterns work perfectly now, especially with LED inserts.
