Coding of Car Security System/Key Fobs

Just had an intruder in my house - looks like he was looking for the keys etc for our 2020 Golf R 7.5. They got the RRS fob instead and unlocked the RRS and rummaged through but doesn't look like they got anything.

He then re-entered the house looking for the Golf keys again and passed up on the keys for the Haflinger and the V12 Jag - it was then that I pinged him (thought it was my flatmate being noisy) and he was off like a jackrabbit out of the house and off on foot.

Unfortunately he still had my RRS keys (and house keys, garage keys, letter box keys etc) and they are not to be seen. Police called and they will finger print the RRS glovebox and the doors to the Golf tomorrow. In the meantime I have disconnected both +ive and -ive battery leads in case he comes back tonight and set up my trail cam to watch over the car. I am sure if he does come back and tries to lift the bonnet, having the bonnet lever on the passenger side will confuse him - but then he really would want the Golf as a high performance car.

So tomorrow I will replace the house locks but not sure what happens with the RRS key fob. I have the spare so I can lock and unlock the car but so can the thief. So how do I change or get changed the security settings on either the car or my fob so I can lock and unlock the RRS but the stolen fob cannot. In due course I will get a new fob to replace the stolen one and get it coded to the car but is not urgent at this time.

Of interest the MO of this intruder is exactly the same as happened almost 4 years ago but nothing was taken from my place though neighbours were done over - the crook was caught about 4 weeks after the even and my flatmate and I think it is most likely the same guy revisiting likely places after being in gaol. If the cops can get some prints it might confirm this.

Oh RRS and D3 security systems are basically the same, hence posting in the D3 section.

    Thanks

Not a nice experience and good that you managed to intervene during his escapade.

I have a Nanocom and the process with fobs/keys with that is that you place the existing key in the ignition and then 'learn' new keys. So in your situation you would go through that process for the key/fob you have. I believe that would remove or erase any others in the BCM and so you would have the only key/fob that would operate the vehicle as the stolen one would be removed from the BCM.

The Nanocom process for the replacement key/fob would be the same as above but you would 'learn' two keys/fobs with the stolen key/fob still unable to open or activate the vehicle.

Hence you should be able to secure the vehicle to the remaining key/fob with an appropriate diagnostic tool.

That is the limit of my knowledge/experience and so I am unable to say what the process is with other tools such as a GapIID.

All the best with that and everything else that you have to do with the breakin.

So I contacted a LR indy and they want the car for a few days and will have to contact a LR expert to do it.

Contacted a local locksmith who also does cars and they want it for an entire morning and will also have to call in an expert to do it but not sure if they can do it.

Contacted the mechanic at my local servo who also does european cars and he said he just uses a local mobile car locks tech and a I got his number. Will come around tomorrow, put the computer on the system, change the codes so it recognises only the fob I have and all will be OK - about 30 minutes work.

Later I will get another fob and get the blade cut and programmed to the car. You can get them for as low as $50 on ebay but they do not use the rechargeable battery system in the fob that the OEM uses so I am a bit wary.

Yes a real PITA but hopefully won't cost you too much.

I actually had a new ignition barrel and front door lock put in a few years ago but I am not at home currently so can't check what the cost was. Needed the new one as the old one was falling apart.
