Class Action related to L462 - Discovery 5

    ‘Evening all

Looking for information on how to update my car’s maps, I came across the following this evening:

Jaguar Land Rover Class Action | Maurice Blackburn

Make of it what you will.

    What year is your car?

My 2019, to update maps - done monthly - I just download a file from Land Rover and an ap on my computer writes it to a USB stick which then uploads it to the car.

Early models used an SD card from memory.

Interesting, and probably should be given a wider audience on the forum since it applies to all? diesel LR vehicles (not just the Discovery 5) manufactured in recent years.

The website says this is a consolidation of 2 separate class actions against JRA over the same matter. So somebody out there is unhappy. While I recall posts on the forum about the problem I don't recall anybody speaking of legal action.

What is the Jaguar Land Rover class action about?

The Jaguar Land Rover class action has been brought on behalf of group members (see table below) who acquired the relevant models of diesel Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar motor vehicles, other than by way of auction or for the purpose of re-supply, between 1 July 2015 and 8 August 2024 in Australia.

The class action relates to affected vehicles that contain an exhaust filter system, including a DPF, designed to reduce emissions in order to meet Euro 6 emissions standards. Broadly speaking, the action alleges that the DPF system is defective and the affected vehicles have a propensity to experience various problems including engine oil dilution and contamination, degradation of engine parts and the DPF system, blockage in various parts of the DPF system, diminished vehicle performance, entering into limp-mode without warning and greater servicing requirements.

The class action alleges that Jaguar Land Rover failed to comply with the guarantee of acceptable quality under the Australia Consumer Law and engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct.

The class action seeks to recover compensation for loss and damage on behalf of consumers with vehicles affected by the DPF issues. It does not seek to claim for loss or damage which is not related to the DPF system.

Well, I can se why they are unhappy. The ERG/DPF system on these is questionable. Just bought a 2018 D5 and dealer had to replace DPF, ERG Valve, ERG filter mesh, and exhaust flag actuator. Car was having constant amber engine light and EGR codes. Once one issue happens it contaminates the entire system.

Its pretty crappy when by law these systems are required but the end user fits the bill for the repair and maintenance. LR shop contacts told the indy fixing my car that they dont even bother with the EGR valve mesh filter anymore cause they just clog up. Mine was fully clogged.

Only part not replaced was the ERG cooler.

    Glade it happened under warrenty.

Looks like they are unhappy in the UK also, class action being raised against JLR there by legal firm Milburg-London.
