    Injector cleaner process

    Hi,

I’d like to do an injector cleaning without removing the injectors. Using liqui moly. I have a small ticking when the car is hot.

    I’ve seen this video: https://youtu.be/qEp3kNBgzoc'si=ZunpQ95G1brQ_Jdh

    Has anyone done it before?

Any of those reputable injector cleaners are OK, but not a permanent solution. The diesel injectors in these engines (assuming you have the TD or SD V6) are not serviceable as the injector openings are really small and made to micron tolerances. They operate within a tolerance band and once they go out of range, they need replacement, however this is usually around 250-300k kms. Using quality diesel and quality filters, regular filter changes and not letting the fuel level drop too low keeps the system clean.

Re the ticking noise, sometimes these engines need an Italian tune up to clear excess carbon and get everything up to temperature.

Note though a rattle at start up for more than a few seconds is timing chain guides.

Ok thanks! I’ll make sure to save some cash then since I am under 250k km.

And, the video is for a D3. Would it be the same for a D4?

Pretty much. You need to invest in a quality code reader. The GAP IID tool is the preferred one. this can tell you details about the injectors. If replacing injectors, each one needs to be recoded to the ecu, so that it knows when to fire and for how long.

    Injector cleaner process

I’ve put a litre of 2 stroke oil in a full tank before a long trip on a few occasions. It hasn’t hurt anything but the evidence suggests it can assist as a system cleaner since it has a proportion of kero.

There’s a great write up on here on 2 stroke oil somewhere but they’ve been talking about it forever on the UK forum.

Not sure what the “premium diesel” now offered is supposed to do either.

Premium Diesel allegedly has a few drops of detergents added. Actual ingredients are hard to determine, but it's a great way to up the price of diesel.
