Dunlop compressor blown - stuck in Benalla

This may have been asked before, If so I apologise but it is fairly urgent.
Towing a caravan, Dunlop compressor about 4 years old went pop this morning and desiccant everywhere.
What would be the cause of this and is it repairable or am I up for a new compressor.

Anyone know of a good mechanic in Benalla

    Thanks for any assistance

The list I provide in the link for Vic LR dealers has been up for a while, but it might help and is all I can offer.
    Good luck with it

Possibly the drier cover has split, they are plastic.

If this is the case it might be fixable with a salvaged cover off an old Hitachi - and new desiccant of course.

I think the Dunlop is a fairly close clone of the Hitachi.

Not repairable roadside so best option is either a new or used Hitachi as will fit right in, likely the desiccant has powdered and blocked the filter causing a build up of pressure then pop.

If the road height is still up then you should be able to still drive to somewhere where there may be better help. There should be enough air in the system to cover auto height adjustments but if there are leaks then it will go down to the bump stops. I have driven nearly 1000km with the compressor removed from my car but was getting a bit low at the end.

Of course you could also do an uncomfortable drive on the bump stops if it ha already gone down.

To get you out of trouble, try removing the dessicant and if only the cap has split (they tend to go between the air line inlets), try araldite epoxy glue to cover the split. If it's the housing, same deal (mine split rightbon rhe seam). With the cap though, you can order an alloy one as part of the full refurbishment kit that includes all the o rings etc. I'd recommend ordering the full kit to be waiting for you at home. Even a wrecker second hand complete compressor would be good, as they're fully rebuildable. For getting you home, you don't really need the dessicant and if rebuilding thr valve blocks anyway. Driving on the bump stops is not comfortable and not good for other suspension components either
