Ahoy, puma owners, I have just purchased a 2010 puma 110, now I am wondering what km's other owners are currently at before requiring an engine swap themselves. Previous owner has serviced every 10,000kms and put a fair bit of TLC into it so it seems to be running smoothly.
Please let me know what km's you are currently at or what km's you got to before engine swapping.
I'm currently at 168,000

Keeping it simple is complicated.
2013 260k as above
MY2010 - +/-180k kms. On second engine (sticky injectors cracked 2 pistons). On second gearbox and about to rebuild it again for a failed 6th gear bearing. My 130 is heavy, i have modified it extensively and i'm hard on my toys, so things just break or wear out prematurely.
FWIW the Puma engine gets a bad wrap. It was used in transit vans and other commercial vehicles by Ford and Peugeot for a decade. Do a search of second hand transit vans for sale not just in Australia but in Europe for a wider sample. There are some high kms examples. It wasn't long ago that we considered 500,000 kms a middle aged engine. Now we get all antsy about a commercial engine passing 200,000 kms. My anecdotal research, most Puma engines go bad from what is bolted to it not what is inside it. Bad injectors are an engine killer. At your kms, if the service history does not include injector replacement, i'd make that priority No 1. 150k kms is about the marker for an injector to become problematic. I have 3 defenders ranging from 1994 to 2010. As such, not one hair on my head and not 2 pennies to rub together.

Current: (Diggy) MY10 D130 ute, locked F&R, air suspension and rolling on 35's.
Current: (but in need of TLC) 200tdi 110 ute & a 300tdi 110 ute.
Current: (Steed) MY11 Audi RS5 phantom black (the daily driver)
Gone: (Dorothy) MY99 TD5 D110
My MY10 Defender has recently clicked over 232600kms... I've just recently replaced the 4 injectors as I was experiencing some oil usage & more than normal Blowby which lead me to finding a leaking injector copper seal. The blowby has been fixed but oil usage is yet to be proven...
It been a great vehicle and has done some hard cross-country exploring trips and look forward to many more

						SubscriberHi Simon,
Take a look at this thread. 2.2 puma 130 engine failure
It appears that good advice for the 2.2 puma is to change injectors every 100,000 km.
Lots of horror stories out there where injector failure = buggered engine.
