Lower Control Arm Life - D4

    Hi All,
    2016 Disco 4
Lower control arms replaced 3.5 years and 30k km ago.
At my recent service a different service shop noted that "LCA bushes are worn and knocking".

The car has only had light highway and suburb use for the 3 years with only one or 2 mild beach trips in that time.
Should I get a second opinion or can the LCA wear that quickly??
    Advice appreciated.

Is there any clunking when going over something like speed humps?

Second last change I used the Meyle HD arms with the new bolts.

On changing last time the bolts and cams were all bent and twisted no doubt after the wheel alignment guy lent on them. I feel this was more of my issue than the worn out LCAs.

Don’t discount bad aftermarket bolts letting you down. Can’t beat the genuine bolts.

Hi Grant, seems to be a stretch to have them up for second round replacement. Have you noticed any issues? As stated by Chris... when the LCA bushes are on the way out you will notice a clunk in the front end when your wheels mount a speed hump, pothole or the concrete rise in a driveway.

Too many factors to discount it...

    What brand were the replacements?
    Was it fitted correctly?

I had my first set go 80k. The second set at 160k. The last set from Advanced Factors lasted 25k

I had my wheels aligned shortly after getting new LCAs - the service tech advised they were worn and needed replacing. He looked a bit sheepish when I said they had only just been done.

I wonder, is there more movement in the landy LCAs as compared to other brands? This causing a false diagnosis of being worn?

The originals fail when they split and lose oil which is easy to comprehend why this is the end of them.

The replacement Meyle HD style are all rubber and very solid and my last set after 90,000km didn’t look particularly destroyed when I changed them due to the thunking.

I am about to do the top arms so I will be very interested to see the condition as I still get a small thunk on backing down off curbs.

Most Discos will be on their 3rd or 4th LCAs by now so I think we are in the era of other arms and parts also raising problems
