    TDV6 3.0 Alternator Replacement

Im 99% sure my alternator failed last week and have bought a Denso DAN1105 replacement. I did my YouTube research on steps to remove/replace and it looked easy enough (for a Disco anyway). But my disco seems to have a pipe that runs right under the alternator which is attached to a bracket which makes the unit very hard to physically remove.

I removed the side panel under wheel arch, got the belt off, all 3 bolts out and could wiggle it around. But where the videos I watched showed, just lifting and tilting the unit forward and down to get to the main battery feed wire and control wire plug, I couldn't get mine to move more than a few mms.

I also notice the battery wire routes under the alternator, seemingly right up against the bracket.

Does this look normal to you?

Here's a screenshot from this video I watched:

vs a photo from mine (different angle I know) - but the pipe is much closer:

Any advice on how to get this out?

I succumbed and got an indie to do it.

Luckily it was the alternator at fault and have a dead one to repair.

One thing I noticed while he was doing it, is just how close the main feed wire from alternator runs to the ground wire that mounts in the driver side wheel arch - they almost touch! Sure they're sheathed, but seriously?

    Anyway, in and working now.

Looks like a tight fit, the 2.7 one is a doddle.

Yeah it’s a **** of a job tbh. I couldn’t for the life of me get the rear connector off Andy ended up cutting the wire and soldering it.

I don’t miss that job on my 3L. Sadly it’s due again soon.

It really is a PITA. I hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon.

The WSM is pretty useless too - or at least the pdf one I have anyway

Were you able to just lift it and tilt forward DiscoJeffster?
