My thoughts are that even if it was as easy, the fact there are so few around, and not the resale value for parts compared to a commodore means that prospective's arent likely to have learnt or have the tools to do it on hand.

SubscriberBeen watching all recent car thefts in the country. How easy is it to steal an L320? How do they "clone" the key?
Just curious

SubscriberSeen a few RR etc stolen/joy rides on Gold Coast I think they broke into house and took the keys. Was just wondering if the old steering wheel lock in suspect area's might be worthwhile?
Meccles, what gives with your browser? I had to edit the thread title, it was full of emojis.

For an expert that really wanted the vehicle, not kids wanting a joy ride,it wouldnt take much to get the Club off with a cordless grinder.
Sure it would be noisy, but they still seem to be the tool of choice.
FWIW,we recently had an old, huge, refrigeration unit, out the front of a commercial shed, behind locked gates, within the property, cut up for scrap by persons unknown over a weekend.
They also cut the locks on the gate.
Just imagine the noise of the grinders doing that, and the sparks,if it was done at night.
Clearly visible and only just off the road, but no one saw anything.
There may not be many of them here, but the parts are high value. A few years back there was a big trade in Porsche bits, stolen by a couple of Aussies in mostly LA, with the parts coming back here by the container load.. They made $$$$ before there was a serious attempt to catch them. "The Porsche Kid". There are probably more L320s than 911s. But the parts could be going anywhere. I reckon Nick could give us an idea of how easy it is to ship parts offshore.
I won't say "rebirthing" is impossible here, but it's bloody difficult, so the cars aren't being taken for resale, and joyriders are not sophisticated enough.
As for Club Locks, well I can pick the things, so a pro car thief is unlikely to be deterred. Moving the OBD2 port might work, but I doubt it, as there are only so many places it can go, unless you are super good with wiring. Also, there are regs stating the port needs to be X distance from the driver's seat. Sure, what they don't know and all, but there it is.
Time doesn't seem to be an issue for the thieves either. They probably know to the nearest five minutes the police response times ( IF they respond at all ). And they are brazen enough to enter homes to take or clone the "key", so it's doubtful the vehicle's owner would scare them.
Simplest way to avoid having your car stolen is to own something they don't want. These guys are pros. They take what gets them the $$$. I reckon my OKA is safe.... Rare, so the market is tiny and the community look after each other. There are only 450 of the things. My Dr also. The market for parts from those is shrinking. Plenty of wrecks around too.

Steering lock takes about 5 seconds to remove. Not even a grinder is needed.
The stolen vehicles are almost always key started after home invasion… so they’ll have the lock key anyway!
Having had my wife suffer 2 home invasions in Adelaide years ago (I was away working) - they’re better off getting f the keys and leaving - so don’t:
- leave valuables in the car
- leave keys by your bedside, because they’ll come in to get them.
Kitchen table, they break in, steal them and pjss off without your family getting threatened (very hard to do anything in bed with a knife to you)
