What have I done!? Bad battery and faults

I’ve had my D3 for 5 years of great fun driving and very few issues. Typically this happened when I’m picking up my new car in 2 days, and about to put this one on the market.

Yesterday going to work the battery was clearly not well but started and got to work to deal with it after. After work, sure enough, flat battery so used my jump starter pack, and again started fine and drove home no problem. Shops were closed so plan was today to do the same and go and get new battery…
Well this is where I stuffed up. Thought I’d make sure I could get the terminal connections off easily and of course the negative was very corroded and impossible to budge. Damaged the battery terminal. Thought I’d drive to get my other tools to hopefully get it off. Car started but error messages everywhere. Flashing LOW, caution light, HDC Fault, etc. Stupidly tried putting transmission in N and select HIGH. Nothing. Tried putting in gear, nothing. Selected P again and got a nasty grinding from “down there”.

How badly have I stuffed up, and will a new battery reset these dramas, or is it going to be one last hit to the wallet and visit to/from mechanic from the old girl?

Sounds like just a very low battery state of charge, i'd be checking that the alternator is charging correctly before buying a new battery.
