    Discovery 4 Key has failed

    Hi

My Discovery 4 key is broken. The hard plastic under the soft rubber buttons has cracked, and one of the buttons now does not work (specifically to open the car).

Is there an aftermarket car key available or am I beholden to Land Rover to supply a new key?

    Thanks
    Greg

Has the actual circuit board failed? It may actually be fully functional.

Remove the circuit board from the fob and test it by pressing the micro switches directly. If all works then just buy a fob shell from eBay (~$10) and transfer the circuit board over.

I guess you pay your money and take your chances. My ebay purchase as you indicated did not work - would not programme. The local mobile auto locksmith was able to supply and programme for a reasonable price. In fact it was the programming to the car that was the most expensive - have a Gap Tool would make the whole exercise quite cheap.

Yes there is an element of risk - some state 433 and supply the incorrect ones - I keep a few known good spares in my workshop.
