    TDV6 Oil cooler

    So,,,,

I've had a small oil leak for a while now, dripping from the area of the bell housing. Only started a few months after doing the body off to do head gaskets. Being new to the engine I didn't think to much about the quantity of oil in the valley. I just thought it was oil that had collected from the filter housing dripping over the previous 555000km worth of oil changes.
that oil was promptly removed and the area cleaned and works completed.

Cut to a few months ago when the mess on the drive started to appear. Had a good look around under the engine trying to locate the leak, nothing too obvious. I then concluded its probably the rear main oil seal starting to let go. Oh well i though body off again!!!.
Then I was watching one of the LR Time videos where Christian diagnoses Fabians oil leak to the oil cooler by stuffing a long zip tie down under the oil cooler like a dipstick and finding a quantity of oil there.

    Light bulb moment, I wonder.!!

So this is what I will check when I get the car back this weekend after my daughter has been using it.

Thats the scenario my question is,

What is the likely cause of the leak? Seals between cooler and block? Gasket between cooler and oil filter housing? Or separating cooler plates
Ive found the gasket with part number on MicroCat, but cant find any other seals. Does any one know what seals and part numbers are?
Is a Territory cooler unit suitable for the Euro 3 engine in my 2006 D3?

    thanks

    Andy

You can only buy it as a whole unit.
There is only 1 gasket from the cooler to the block. No seals
It's can be just the gasket, but it's a bit of a task to fit it.
Yes, a territory 1 will fit.
It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power

I have the part numbers listed as :
    Oil Cooler LR009570
    Oil Cooler Gasket 1356789
MY08 D3 - The Antichrist - "Permagrimace". Turn the key and play the "will it get me home again" lottery.

I was under the impression the 3.0 was a complete unit but the 2.7 is available in parts. The 3.0 shows 3 o-ring seals where it mates to the block. does the 2.7 have the same type seal or is that a gasket?

    thanks

That'd be the "Oil cooler gasket".

Yeh, that gasket is for between the oil filter housing and the oil cooler below it. Im looking for seals for between the block and oil cooler.
On the 2.7 diagram in microcat it shows a breakdown of the oil cooler and filter housing assembly but doesnt show any seals to the block, where as the 3.0 diagram is just the whole cooler and filter as 1 item but shows seals for between the block and cooler assy. Im wondering if these seals are the same sealing method for the 2.7.

    thanks

I read that most people replace the whole cooler unit instead of just the gasket but not read of the cooler itself failing ?
Only part i can see that would fail is the front section under the outlet piece which i believe is the cause of oil in coolant and this piece can be removed separately.
