    Rudge (Montague) Bi-Frame

Back in the UK years ago I saw an article in a Land Rover magazine for the Rudge Bi-Frame folding bike.
Full size wheels were unusual for a folding bike but it seems they didn't sell very well so were being discounted.

I was interested because Raleigh were using the Rudge name, so went to have a look at the local bike shop.
There was a 21 speed with a white frame and an 18 speed with a black frame. As the black frame was more in fitting with Rudge motorcycles I chose black.

Interesting design where the rear frame pivots around the seat tube.
Drop the front wheel, undo 3 clamps, pull a lock pin and the rear frame section & wheel swing round, turn handlebars 90 degrees and place the front wheel beside the folded bike for transport. There was a carry bag originally available.

The Montague Bi-Frame turned up as 'The Official Mountain Bike of the Atlanta Olympics" and was also sold by BMW.

Mine was fitted with easily removable mudguards and mounts for Duracell bike lights (the lights are in a cupboard somewhere) but hasn't seen much action for many years.
Dug it out today and cleaned it.

Montague still make folding bikes, I'd love to justify the cost of a Paratrooper.
