Locking kit comes with both bits for auto and manual, the Advanced factors timing belt kit has everything you need inc idlers, tensioners and new bolts for all and its all Dayco products bar the bolts.
G'day All,
Checking my records it appears I'm approaching (or maybe just passed) time for the belts.
While I'm in there I figure I'll do the coolant inlet, outlet, water pump, and drivers side cam pulley (an extra $250 will help me sleep better at night even if it's not absolutely necessary).
I was going to replace the whole lot including the idlers and bolts for the idlers and tensioner (the bolts will be genuine). Looking at LRDirect they sell the Dayco kits and idlers. I used a Dayco kit when I did the HPFP 6 years ago.
Again they do an SKF water pump. Never had an issue with SKF gear.
Does anyone have a reason why I wouldn't use any of fthose in preference to something else? Should I be doing anything else while I'm in there?
Accessory belt, tensioner and idler was done last year.
Also, anyone in Perth have the timing pin / lock set I could borrow later this year?
Edit : Looks like the auto and manual require different flywheel locks, so if you have the auto kit it might not apply. I may have to get the full set.

Yes I have the kit ex Shane's kit. Kit has two varieties of flywheel locks. Drill bits are best for the cam pulley locks.
Dazza uses only the Japanese spec idlers I learnt only after I used the AF Dayco kit which had been fine so far.
The idlers in my af kit were Japanese ntn brand.

Good to know, I didn't think to check. I saw his video later where he seemed to separately source the timing belt kit items.Originally Posted by loanrangie;[emoji639
Having saved a couple of hundred bucks on the alternator (thanks again Graeme!) I'm now considering doing the oil cooler while I'm in there.
I found a mob in the UK that machine a drivers side cam pulley from a steel billet. That sounded great until I saw the price. Not sure I could justify > $500 when a new genuine is ~$250. Must be a rash of them breaking in the UK for someone to go to that length though.
I had the oil pump upgraded at the last belt change, so I figure that's ok.

just some added info...
Yes I use the Dayco belt kits.
I use genuine tensioner bolt, genuine idler bolts, but you could use the oem idler bolts.
the idler bearings... they used to be NTN in the Dayco box, but then they went to an unknown brand, the same as genuine.
SKF idlers were also NTN bearings, both are getting hard to find now or are quite expensive.
To be plain, does it really matter, prolly not (i'm sure they will last another 160 odd K) putting aside my own obsessive nature, my thought is if one ever failed on me, i'm then up for a engine at my own expense. And even if i sent back a failed idler, what then.... they send me another one or two.
Allmakes4x4 list the idler bearings as NTN. BUT like so much of allmakes / britpart stuff, its one brand one time then the next time you order it's different.

Thanks Daz,
Yeah, I'll just go with the Dayco kits & Idlers and see what's in the box when it arrives.
I've put genuine bolts for the tensioner and idlers in the list though. I figure that's cheap insurance.
Given they all get replaced every 7 years, and I'm doing ~100kkm in that time they all have a pretty easy life.
