    Chip reprogram or a plug-in

Hi - my Disco 3 2006 is not giving a much low end torque as it should. Mechanic has suggested an ECU reprogram might be the answer. Interested in people’s thoughts. Is a reprogram worthwhile and if so are there any reputable places that people are aware of in NSW that do them (I live in Newcastle). Also, I’ve seen some plug-ins online that seem to do the same thing but seem a lot cheaper - are they a reasonable option?

    Thanks for your thoughts

You likely have an issue and trying to mask it with a tune is not going to help. Sticking EGR has been known to impact low end torque and power output as some of the exhaust gas leaks past the EGR instead of spooling the turbo. If you haven’t bypassed the EGR as yet, maybe try some blanking plate inserts to prove the theory then decide how you want to resolve it.
I am basing this on you believing it used to run better than it does now.

With very rare exception, plugins are never a "reasonable option". They all work by interfering with sensor inputs to the ECU to make it think the engine is doing something it isn't and needs more fuel. At best they're an educated hack and at worst they're a cheap and (in my best Trump voice) "nasty" hack that's liable to cause overfuelling damage.

If you do want a remap, get it remaped properly by someone that has access to a Dyno and knows how to use it. That way the ECU is actually performing as designed.

    Chip reprogram or a plug-in

    HI

    1) If your mechanic suggests a tune will fix an inherent fault - Find a new mechanic... The fault causing your power loss needs to be solved before tuning.

    2) Remap not Chip (Reach out to Old Jaguar in Sydney)

Times 2 for a remap, our D4 has a remap for towing, plug ins are not recommended for Discos, give DPL in Sydney a call for info on what you want, he did our remap.

NO! There is a clear fault. Resolve that before resulting to remapping a fix.
