    Business Breakfast

I am looking to organise a regular informal monthly business breakfast get together for club members, their guests and business contacts. Before I confirm a venue and details, can I have a show of hands of who might want to come along one morning a month to get involved.

The suggested format will be; meeting around 7am at a locally convenient cafe/restaurant, quick breakfast and then each person attending will have the opportunity to tell everyone about their business, role within a business or services they offer etc and hand around some business cards. The idea being to network with other friendly business contacts in a relatively informal manner and to share around leads. Plan would be to finish at 8am sharp each time and the cost would be nominal to cover breakfast - plus we may look at adding a small amount on for the club to benefit from - perhaps $1 or $2 each on top of breakfast.

There are several of these business breakfasts that occur on the Gold Coast, both independant and formally attached to larger organisations and from experience, are a great way to introduce business around and to also get to know other useful business contacts in a friendly and relaxed environment. Thay are also a great way of keeping in touch with what is happening in your field of business and local area.

Once I have an idea of who MIGHT be interested in getting involved I will do a bit more work on this and put something more detailed together. For those of you who have had any involvement with a similar event, please share your experience here so that others new to this type of thing can get a feel for what it actually is.

My feeling is we have a growing 4x4 club which happens to be made up of many individual business owners, opperators, and those employed in various roles but essentially we are all trying to better ourselves and our businesses/careers so why not share this wealth of information and contacts?

Once we have established a regular meeting, our group may stand a better chance of approaching and getting involved with community based projects etc and raising the profile of not only our club but 4x4 in general.

Any comments and feedback very much appreciated.

P.S. We obviously have some members in Brisbane and the surrounding outlying areas so please let me know if you are keen but may find it too far to travel for a short meeting and I will put my thinking cap on - perhaps we run a couple of meets to make sure all those wanting to get involved can - suggestions at this stage.

    Aye, Mick

    Mick,

I am a member of one of these groups and find it an excellent source of business, and for having a network of businesses and services for my clients and myself.

I'd be interested in being part of anything you want to do, however, having so many in finance may be an issue, but I'm keen.

    Hey All,

Sorry havent gotten around to posting just yet on this. Look I think it is a great idea, a couple of things though, one that has been touched on, is that generally the way networking get togethers work best is when you have representatives from all different and non competing industries ie thats the point of networking is drumming up business. The main area in respect to ourselves is in Finance, with quite a few involved, mind you Bolts and I are in kahoots now so that means we have to boot Fenian off . Nah just kidding, an idea though is that if things took off and there was not only GCLRO members but other people coming along maybe to have a Gold Coast meet and a Brissie meet, so if there were to be people in same line of work, they wouldnt be competing against each other for business. Thats generally how the ones I have been to work, and it works well like that. Just my thoughts

    Regards

Thought I might drag this idea up again, as since first posting in 2006, we have a few new members on board and some in other business areas Any other members care to get involved?

Noting the comments about conflict of interest from competing business sectors, I think we might keep this Gold Coast for now (sorry Matt, but you're a millionaire anyway) and then expand from there.

I'm happy to get something going but would need to have a reasonable amount of people to make it worth while so let me know if you are very keen, interested, want to know more or have any questions about how it works, what kind of business you are in etc etc.

For the record, my business interests are interstate so I would merely facilitate or chair these meetings in the beginning.

Just look at these breakfasts as a slightly more formal club meeting night, where the focus is mainly on business and not land rovers

Anyway, as I mentioned before, happy to answer any questions anyone has, but for those in business or in a role that requires sourcing new business and you are new to this concept, it really is a great way to do business.

    Aye, Mick

P.S. If you are keen, let me know what type of business you are in and were you live/work so I can try and arrange a suitable meet point and time for all.

    Hey mate,

Kept meaning to respond, good idea, though I think you would need to have at least 10+ for it to be viable. Also as you already know , I am a finance broker, mainly commercial equipment, plus can also do consumer vehicles and mortgage finance,

    Regards

    Stevo
