it is the flywheel for an engine fitted with an auto box.....
its very thin and has a ring gear on it for the starter motor to work on.....

its like sheet metal compared to the flywheel of an engine fitted with a manual box.....

First thoughts. What other makes use this trans? What drive plate do they have? Is it like yours? Will it fit yours? Can one be modded to fit yours? If it is a flat plate with a ring gear welded on there is no problem. Any metal shop can make one. Start with a saw blade. Ask any boilie/sheetie, fitter & turner, tool & die man.

    Buy a new one.

The flex plate doesn't have the ring gear on it. The part no. is FTC4050 Drive Plate Auto, price from my older LR price list is $12.50 which seems cheap seeing the one for my P38A was about $100.

Hi, Thanks for the feed back.
I asked for a flex plate with the expectation a new one would cost a fortune. When I put this land rover together the flex plate had a crack in it so I replaced it with a patten plated which cost me £140 approx $350.
got a good price today of $130 genuine land rover. includes bolts and dowels etc
why it has gone within 8 months I don't know.(could be my driving I suppose)maybe I should stop going backwards before i select drive ).
so should be back on the road in no time.just got to get the discovery to where i work.

Mine also broke on my 4.6 P38A - taking out the crank angle sensor. On the left, the one I pulled out and replaced with the new one on the right which failed in no time flat.

I wondered if the passivated cadmium plating embrittled the steel. I've had correspondence with a couple of other blokes who had the same problem.

There are h/duty flex plates in Perth. They are a bit thicker than standard.
