I liked the TV show![]()
My car has now got a name. I will call it Horatio.
And the reason? The name is from that literary naval chappie - Horatio Hornblower (by C.S. Forester).
My Rangie is randomly blowing the horn. It's been happening for a while but initially as a short groan that I was unable to determine from whence it came. I suspected it was the alarm horn.
But lately it has progressed to a full on short blast of the horn(s). The tone makes it sound like the main car horns.
Now this is not the sort of thing you want happening as you drive around. Someone is likely to take it as a fit of road rage from me and to take retaliatory action, e.g., I might get my face punched! (In some areas of Los Angeles, I'd probably get shot!).
Has anyone struck this before?
I assume there is a short circuit somewhere. The problem has become more frequent - about 6 times today whereas it used to be once a month. It might be when the steering wheel turns but I can't say for sure. I thought rotary coupler but can't see why.
I'll have to get the manual out to see how to access the coupler.

Maybe give the horn relay a tap & see if it comes on again - hopefully it's something simple like that anyway.

I'm afraid I'm coming to the conclusion that you only exist in the matrix to keep our morale up Ron.
I've got no meaningful suggestions other than testing the relay and the switch...if you can get to them.

Hi Ron, I don’t know how the Rangie is wired up but a lot of older vehicles had a common problem like yours and it was usually the horn wire in the steering wheel either fraying or just being loose.
Cheers and have fun finding it.
I suspect (but haven't checked) that the horn wire goes via the very expensive rotary coupler in the steering column. I haven't priced one yet but I know they cost 250 EurosOriginally Posted by drivesafe

It seems you really need deep pockets when owning a RR.
Mine is just about to cost me $6k for a new transmission.
I should have got rid of it before the warranty ran out but I like it too much to part with it.
Cheers.
Hey Ron, You just need a bumper sticker
