    Gas injection for TDI

    Hello

Did a run from Melbourne to Brisbane over Christmas and found the lack of passing power on my disco 300tdi positively dangerous. Was considering doing the pump tweak when someone told me about gas injection giving you a minimum 20% increase in power, cleaning up the exhaust and running cooler as well and, on top of that, the Government will pay 2k toward the kit. Sounds great... has anybody here had it installed and is there anyone in Melbourne who does a reliable instalation?

    thanks
    Warren

(new to forum, had a 1998 300tdi from new. great touring car, pitty about the build quality ..)

Turtles had it done, Ive not heard his running on it but from albury to melb he had fantastic economy and mine sucked...

Ive had the chance to drive a couple of not landrovers with it fitted and while the vehicles were a lot better to drive in terms of pickup smoothness and consumption by the seat of my pants Id dispute the 20% power increase...

10% maybe a little more but dont go bagging them on that yet the vehicle was returning much better economy (driver keeps logbooks) and after reviewing the books the fuel saving was something in the line of 7l per 100k if you only counted the dieso burn.

add the lpg to the equation and the saving dropped to about 3l per 100k... which is still a saving at the bowser.

10% more power and a drop of operating cost that works out to just under 20% at the pump along with smoother running which in my mind says further saving on wear and tear... If i had the upfront readies and didnt already have plans for the place they want to stick the tanks Itd allready be fitted.

welcome , a fitting start to the 'home' of L/R owners expertise.

your first post sounds a lot like my first post some years ago, apply titled 'my disco is a slug'

Before changing and bolting on power, it is after all a diesel.

Having said that, With mine , it has taken a couple of years to find out the actual cause, of its slugness.
Firstly check the turbo to intercooler hoses the 90 deg one mainly to see if it hasn't got a hole in it or is loose. ( mine had a slight delamination, was loosing a lot of boost)
secondly the most important one, ( well it was for me) if your due a timing belt have one done by someone who really knows what there doing or a really good repairer ( see state by state list at bottom of forums list)
For my part ,mine had a warranty timing belt kit fitted by a dealer two owners ago, they completely stuffed it up, it was i think out by one cog, enough to make a difference.
Mine drives like a petrol motor now in comparison to what it was, much more power and responsiveness.
Seeing you had just driven past my way, you would have driven past Ricks 4wd at nerang, the man is a genius and good with L/R's.
