taking a 95 fender from manual to auto

anyone know how hard it would be to put an auto out of a 95 300tdi disco into a 95 300tdi fender?

anything nasty to be on the lookout for?

    just mulling possibilites :P

The only one I have ever seen was George 130, it looks very impressive, very expensive and an absolute pr1ck of a job to do. I personally think a clutchless manual gearbox modification would be an easier option.

His is a Td5 though. I would have thought swapping the box on a Tdi would be a piece of cake given that it is all mechanical changes.

    Dave,

Easy but time consuming, I've done them, give me a call and I'll run you through it. It is really easy if you have a donor vehicle. BTW, it makes the defender a total pleasure to drive.
This should have been done by landrover from the factory, it is an excellent idea.
I guess i could do another one while I'm on holidays next year up your way....

I does make them very easy to drive. I would have thought that a TDI was easier than the TD5. No computers to deal with. Mine almost looks factory.

Bloke who used to own the LR specialist down at slacks creek , converted his years ago...300tdi fender d-cab. Was a nice looking vehicle, and he and his wife commented on how much better it was. He eventually sold it on and bought a D2 Td5.

As stated above though, makes it easy to do if you have a donor vehicle.

    Cheers,

Is this business still there? Didn't know there was a Landy specialist down that way.
