    Thrust Bearing Td5 Defender Xtreme

Am considering purchase of a 110 Xtreme with a "noisy" thrust bearing . Vehicle has done about 200,000. I believe that I would wish to get this attended too and have the clutch done as well as a precautionary job. Can anybody give me an idea of what a job like this would set me back at an LR dealers ?

Are you sure it is not the spigot bearing?

    What are the symptoms?

My Disco TD5 has been making that "groaning" when cold in the morning for over 12 months,it goes away once everything warms up.221000ks at the moment.
Wouldnt worry about it too much, others have the noise too.

If it makes a groaning / whistling sound when cold then 9 times out of ten it will be a spigot bearing.

Any person who owned an early model holden should know that.

They went dry after a while.

    To stop this you can,

    1. Heat them till dull red and drop them in oil then put them in.

    2. Push oil through the brearing, by placing it on you thumb, filling it with oil and pressing the top with index finger. You should see the oil come out after a few times.

    3. If it does this then next time you have the gearbox out, pack the little sod with grease after oiling it.
