    SIIA - Engineers Report required

    Hi All,

I've just come back from QLD with my newest Landy - a SIIA ute. It has a holden 6 conversion (looks really well done) and a QLD compliance plate, the RTA have told me I need an Engineers Report for the conversion... where do I get one done in Sydney? Has anyone been through this process on a similar vehicle?

Get on the RTA website. There is a list of approved engineers.

    isn't this ****ing stupid.
we live in the same country, our drivers licences are a national license, just issued in different states.
you can drive your modified and suitably plated vehicle into any state in australia, but when you want to register it in another state you have to suck to the state's own rules.
i think this would be a candidate for a challenge to the australian consitution - namely free trade between states.
but no one has enough swing - and money to do it.
i know a little bit about this stuff, and it does cost.
nsw has a history of setting their own rules,
a long time ago my father fought the nsw on road tax for trucks, they taxed trucks for passing through nsw - no, that was against the constitution, he won, so you truckies can thank him for that, of course it cost.
nsw govt sucks! [so do they all!]

At least it SHOULD be straight forward,a quick look for safety, and fill the paper work in as its already been licsensed in another state.
It stops the sort of thing happening like my mate has just purchased. No need for slips in WA,he has just got a Nissan 720 4WD ute with a holden 253 and auto conversion. He knew what he was getting into,he is a holden HQ-HZ nutter and it owes him less than what he paid for what the motor/gearbox is worth.
This thing,as much as I like it,is registered still, but as a 4cyl.Best case senario he gets stopped cops work out its a V8,1 yellow or red sticker.Worst case,he gets involved in a fatal accident,You are in big strife.
This rego check eliminates this senario.
BUT IM REAL HAPPY WE DONT HAVE COMPULSARY REGO INSPECTIONS IN WA!!!!!!

Buggered if I can find anything on the RTA website - mind you, I've never been able to find anything about anything from either their website, their phone service or their customer "service" centres! All the cash we fork out to them must be going into keeping the roads in NSW in such good shape....

Can someone give me a link to where the engineers are?

    Yeah it's a bugger.

    Go here:
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/sitesearch/search and search for automotive engineers.

That is, of course, if the PDF didn't attach properly.

Peter Gillard in Leichhardt helped me with some stuff a couple of years ago.

I would have thought that if you had the blue Qld RTA plate that approve the conversion (the Qld engineers plate) attached to firewall that would be accepted by NSW RTA. Also I though a holden six conversion in the NSW system was one of the "approved mods" that had standard approval and did not need engineering.

Got the report done today - $330.00! WTF? It took all of half and hour, although the paperwork took a bit longer apparently.

All this because the RTA have a superiority complex about QLD!

Anyway, its done now and passed no worries.

Thanks to those who provided advice.
