100% Propane

well by now we all know that supagas sells 100% propane for cars. i did a search for propane on the forum and came up with one discussion thread on the forum that related too it, but didnt really go into the results.
justed wondering if any v8 owners have tried it, and if they noticed any difference in range from a tankful when compared to a blend. i know that a performance increase can be expected, but like most people im more concerned with range. ive heard of improvements of 20 to 25%, but id like to hear of real world experiences. I live very close to to cheltenham supagas dealer, but i only seem to fill up at night when they are closed.
Ill also ask while im here, what are the most efficient systems for a Disco 1.
Is the sgi available for d1 or only d2? so far ive been quoted $2600 for scuba tanks and an American system to 4400 for under body tanks etc.
i did not ask about sgi when getiing quotes (doh) but its safe to assume the 2600 one would use a venturi.
Lastly who is a trustworthy fitter in the southern suburbs of melbourne (ie brighton to frankston).

Skidmark, I waited a loooong time for SGI for mine but in the end gave up waiting for development and fitted a regular converter & mixer setup. One thing for it is that it is simple to understand.

One comment I offer to you is to think long and hard whether you really really definitely can't spare the 8-10" of lost cargo in the back; I say this because I went with twin torpedos underneath with a sub tank in the RH qtr and somewhat regret it. When you go away for even a full weekend it's not quite enough gas and not nearly enough petrol.
I now plan to add an additional manifold tank in the cargo afterall and additional sill tanks for petrol, but it's a lot of coin which does rather defeat the purpose of LPG conversion, unless I keep it for quite some time.

I considered straight propane for my County & the only reason I didnt do it at the time was I thought it would kill the resale value. Now the market has dropped it really doesnt matter much. At least I will not have ADR compliance issues if I do. I had a mate with a Toyota tray 100% gas.
Went as good as a petrol one. Simple to put an adaptor on the manifold, its really only a flapper valve in place of the Carby.
I've had 20 years in the LPG industry,- not Supagas.
If your Disco runs better on Propane, it will be because that was what you had in the tank when it was tuned. The company I work for has gone from propane to mix at a whole lot of customers that run forklift fleets from a tank at thier factory. We get the forklifts re tuned at our cost and they never complain. Most drivers don't even know we changed the gas. At the moment Butane is only $4.00/ tonne cheaper than propane, so there are no savings in it for us, except we can schedule a Semi (that does service stations) instead of a bobtail, so I guess there is an overall saving.
Its swings and roundabouts with the blend vs propane. The Butane is a denser gas but not as high octane, however, because its denser you get a denser vapour which makes up for the octane.

You get (at 15 deg celcius):
1.862 litres to the kg with Mix
1.968 litres to the kg with Propane
The true energy value is in the weight. That is why cylinders are sold by weight. A 45 kg cylinder filled in Darwin might have 93 litres in it ( expanded) a 45 kg filled in Hobart might have 87 (cold) both have the same energy content. And before you ask, the bowser calibrates it all back to 15 deg celcius. Now you know why your 72 l tank can take 76 litres- the gas was cold.

I've commented on it, but have never been near a Supagas to get a known 100% Propane tankful. I have conjectured that country servos probably have a higher Propane proportion, and my country runs have yielded significantly higher economy than long freeway runs that have refuelled in Melbourne.

I think the point is missed,100% propane compared to the normal "take what you get LPG" mix most suppliers provide.
Its what causes the wildly varying differences in LPG economy.
As far as I know there is no set level LPG quality has to meet so you get what poo they deliver.
BIG JOKE IS,LNG(liquefied Natural Gas) EX North West Shelf in WA is DELIVERED to Japan and China @ 20 cents a litre!!!!!
