Do you mean 'working' or 'living' in isolation?

I have plenty of experience living in isolation since I've stopped working due to illness.

Yep, plenty as paramedic, ESSO, ESC. Some nights you see heaps of people, other nights none. Also depends on how much work I have on as to wether or not I get out and about.

I've got cancer that had spread from the bowel though out my body.

Several tests and hospital stays and 15 doses of IV chemo and the only cancer was in my liver.

Radioactive yttrium 90 was injected into the liver but it did not get it all.

I've just spend 3 days and 2 nights in hospital and got out Yesterday arvo.

Long-term outlook as far as the specialists are concerned is bleak as no more treatment can be done apart from chemo tablets which I start again tomorrow.

I was diagnosed in February 2006 and made work last out until June 2007 when I had to resign to receive any superannuation payment.

We lived on income protection from the super company until they classed me as permanently disabled so they stopped payment in May 2007.

After many doctors reports and forms with centrelink they have put me on a Disability Pension which should start next week due to leave payments from my work.

No one should have to go though what I have but at least I have made it this far.

That's why I live at lot in isolation now. My wife supports me and gets the carers allowance and payment but she still needs to work a couple of days per week to bring in the money as well as to have a break from me.

At least I can spend heaps of time on this forum although I would rather be working, boating, camping, fishing and driving. I have not driven since March this year.

Yeah, I try and keep positive but I hide most of the pain and discomfort.

Panadine and Nurofen work well even though long term they are not good.

I work as a veterinarian and the internet has been my lifeline during the times of isolation when your sitting around waiting for an animal to wake up after an anaesthetic at night, or on a drip that needs watching or checking an animal in hospital late at night, etc.... (I presume you mean that your working and not that your in prison and isolation.......) Actually as I write I hope you're not manning something too vital..... get back to work!

    Barry,
Keep the spirits up mate, there's only one way to go and thats forward mate, as tough as it gets, and as you know it gets pretty tough, there's no point in dwelling in the past, so chin up mate and keep fighting.
    Look after yourself mate.
    Cheers Phill.

Oh yeah, more nights than I care to remember.
It all started nearly 40 years ago. Dark and stormy nights. Only one on the plant, night shift boiler house watchkeeping. Hospitals, Power Stations, Factories and Industrial installations. It has to be kept running for everybody else.

Late nights, alone, in the boiler house of the main Adelaide "nuthouse", with hourly phone in reports to the main Hospital (RAH), 5 minutes late phoning in and the Police are sent to check on your safety. That was an interesting few months, working nights at the "Home for the Criminally Insane".

Months of night shift, 4 floors under ground, at the Royal Adelaide Children's Hospital. The Board Room decisions, on maintenance budgets, were almost catastrophic in that small rather important emergency power-house.

Just before dawn is the hard part. Be damned careful driving home.

Barryj, sorry to hear about the health mate.
Keep fighting it mate. Both my brothers are going through the struggle at the moment as well.
Older brother, in his 60's Vietnam Veteran, kid brother, in the Navy with me, still only in his 40's.
And the vet says my dog has got an enlarged prostate.

Keep pushing it back down mate, fight that little bugger back into submission.
