    300tdi pump Final results

    Hi all;

    Just a question in regards to the Full Optimisation of your Fuel Pump for 300tdi ,has anyone here recorded their Final settings? or do you remember from the top of your head what these Final adjustments were ? if so, are you able to provide me with these details?

    1) Final Position of the eccentric Cone Diaphram ,09:00 o'clock 12:00 o'clock etc.

    2) Star wheel adjutment and how many Turns CW or CCW
    from original position?

    3) Final number Turns of the Stop Screw CW/CCW

    so far I have turned Star Wheel 90 degrees , the Diaphram is still sitting at 100 degress ( I think this was the original setting ) and the stop screw is turned in 1 - 1 1/2 turns CW ) for no Boost -> Low Boost .

    Boost Gauge is still registering 14psi at maximum (Full Boost)

    Any info / Hints is much appreciated in advance.

    I did mine a long time ago and I followed a thread that had been posted on AULRO, with links to a site called Dodge Ram (Dodge also use the Bosch VE pump) and some French site as well. See if you can track down the thread. My diaphragm had a mark on it that pointed towards the block ex. works. I turned it 90 Deg clockwise so that it points to the front of the vehicle.

    I did the other tweaks from the thread as well and it completely transformed the performance. Bit of smoke if you thrash away from traffic lights etc. but it accelerates like a petrol engine and has loads of power. Fuel consumption seems the same as ever.

    Mine boosts to centre scale on a 30psi Redline gauge.

    This is the original forum thread
    http://www.landroveraddict.com/smf/i...;topic=91564.0

    I also have another article on another computer which I will try and find.

    I made various adjustments - diaphragm, smoke screw and star wheel which all made a huge difference. But recently I had the injector pump overhauled (400K km) and the technician adjusted the power screw 1/4 turn clockwise (as seated in the driver seat) and it has made a similar difference as ALL the other tweaks. So I would just adjust the power screw and leave everything else alone.

    Dunnie;

    That makes sense , assuming your Fuel pump hadn't been previously tweeked ,your diaphramp's original position would have been set at 100 deg which turning it 90 deg CW would set you up for Maximum Fuel Delivery Position which from Ian's notes is set @ 12:00 o'clock

    There is no definitive safe maximum settings as they vary from pump to pump and engine to engine.
    Be very, very careful when adjusting, if you don't have an EGT pyro you can easily create a melt down. On my first fiddle I wound things up fairly well and had to back them off a reasonable amount as I hit 720* far too early into my hill climb. These settings weren't as far wound up as some others.

    BTW, the best written instructions are actually on here, compiled and refined from all those other sources by one of our own. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/attachment...6&d=1152411367

    thanks Rick , I had the same notes from an earlier post which you were kind enough to sent me the link to a while back and that's what I have followed, I've ordered the Pyrometer from Thermoguard and am waiting to recieve it so I can actually install it to do my Mod,but correct me if I'm wrong every standard VE Bosch Fuel Pump straight from Factory for a 300tdi disco is tuned the same way,yes/no ?I'll try and provide some reasoning the best I can and you tell me if you agree/Disagree.

    for example ian mentions in his notes that the Diaphram's original position was set at 100 deg or app between 08:00 and 09:00 O'Clock , and mine was exactly the same ,I assume yours was very similar or the same ( before the mod ) , now as for the Eccentric Cone it is marked 13H ,I assume yours is also the same ,so the eccentric Cones were identical , don't know about the tolerences but presume they would be very small ? the Cone which has the Limiting Pin resting up against it should now give us both app the same amount of Fuel charge at any given position of the Cone which has the limiting pin resting against it had you not done the Mod yet?This is just a comparison between both our Pumps prior to Mod ? if diaphram marker is set up at exactly the same position and the Starwheel's Pre-Load on the spring is identical consequently would that not make my Fuel Pump's behaviour and yours almost identical on a 300 tdi without any mods knowing that everything was in same position? Yes/no? Maybe?

    been far too long since I did mine. I kept notes, but I've since moved and they are 'filed' somewhere
    What I do remember is that I couldn't use the maximum fuel settings that Ian did, far too high EGT's for this little black duck, or maybe I'm just lucky to have bloody long, steep hills around for testing. The thing still goes like the proverbial off a shovel, and I can still go over 720* crossing the range here, depending on the day, if I don't keep an eye on the readout.
