Got a new GPS, now what?

OK, so after a lot of undignified begging on my part, Mrs Santa has relented and given me my Legend Cx early. Hooray

So now what? It comes with a "Trip & Waypoint Manager" program which is very basic but seems to work OK. The Australian map is crap. Doesn't even show the SE Freeway in Brisbane which was built 20 years ago!

As it has a mapping capability I'd like to load some topo maps.

    So:
What program do I need to load the maps?
Can I scan in paper maps and convert them?
Any other question I've yet to think of?

    Cheers.

Ok, you can't scan paper maps and use them, the GPS unit can't handle that. If you want to do that you need to run oziexplorer on a laptop with the gps plugged in.

You have 2 map options that you can load onto the gps that are free. Tracks4australia which is very good for tracks and 4wd trails. You can also get contours overlay for that map set as well.

There is also a set called shonkymaps which would work well on your unit as it is a colour set, and has the contours built into it.

No Weeds, I've gotta use it then as I had to blame you for the reason why I couldn't wait for Xmas. I'll be in the pooh big time if I come back without any data.

Thanks for that. I've installed the Tracks4Australia maps for SE QLD and Nth NSW and it works a treat. Tell me, does it overwrite the Garmin base map in the GPS or is it still there somewhere?

Which begs the next question: Does the GPS hold only one set of maps at a time? Ie depending on memory limitations of the 128MB micro SD card (in my case) I may want/have to save various maps on my PC (with their tracks and waypoints) and transfer to and from the GPS as required.

    Cheers.

Well I'm impressed, they both work a treat and come up very nicely on the Legend's colour screen. And free too!
