D3 Safari Snorkels

I'm going to fit a snorkel to the TD in the near future and would like to know what everyones thoughts are regarding a Safari snorkel Vs the LR one, ie, wind noise, fit and finish, design issues if any? Thanks.

I fitted the LR Raised Air Intake (RAI) because at the time the Safari snorkel was not available. I chased Safari for about 1 year and finally gave up with all the delays.

Please note the LR version is not a snorkel like the Safari one. It is a Raised Air Intake and can let water into the air intake if you were sitting in water long enough. So determine what is most appropriate for your needs.

I can say that the LR RAI does not create any wind noise or whistling at any legal speed. If you have the window down a bit you will hear some sucking noise but that is about it. I do prefer the integrated look of the LR RAI over the Safari snorkel but if I had to make the choice again I'd go a Safari snorkel to be 100% sure in a deep water crossing. I can't comment on the Safari's noise factor.

Like Chris I fitted the LR one because it was the only one available at the time. When fitting it I realised That water could get in where it goes through the mudguard so I put a double layer of tape around that area and silicon there and also where the the snorkel fits against the mudguard. Haven't had a chance to "test" it yet, might not if this drought keeps up It doesn't seem to make a lot of wind noise at higher speeds

I have the Safari snorkel fitted and don't get any wind noise from it
and it is a good fit. Had ARB fit it when they fitted the bull bar.

I am not sure if this thread is still active, but I will try anyhow, does anyone know if a Safari Snorkel that is listed for the TDV6 will fit and work OK with a V6 petrol D3 MY09? I am new to LR's and I am in country Vic, lots of dust (read drought) and with the air intake on the drivers side, it gulps in the dust when traveling down unmade roads and another vehicle is going in the other direction.

I don't believe that Safari make snorkels for the V6 or V8. The RAI should suit your purpose if water is not an issue.

If dust is the only issue then the LR RAI will be a better bet. There is not much difference in the price.
Not sure if the Safari will fit as the air box is different.

Thank you both (CaverD3 and Desert Trav.) for the response, dust is the main issue at the moment, but I suppose I want both protections, water will be an issue whilst out in the bush touring. I will call Safari and see what they say and next time I am in town I will have a look at the differences under the bonnet of a TD6 in the sales yard, if they let me! Maybe I could fabricate something.

Could be the way to go. I fabricted an entire snorkel including connections.
