Have a look at the threads about the 2007 Defender - several people have been told that the 90 will not appear in Australia. Of course if they get enough enquiries about them, this could possibly change. However, it is noticeable that sales of the SWB Landrover started to decline in the seventies, if not before, and when the 110 was introduced here to replace the Series 3, the 90 was not, and in fact it was not introduced until about five or six years ago, and was discontinued (allegedly because of poor sales) after a couple of years.
There may be all sorts of reasons why it has not been a success here, but the fact is that other four wheel drive manufacturers have had similar problems selling their short wheelbase versions. One problem, I think, is that ADRs now require three point belts in all front seats, and appear to prohibit side facing seats - which effectively makes the 90 a two seater, which most people are not happy with. But even apart from this, Australians have, over the last thirty years, overwhelmingly preferred the long wheelbase four wheel drives - probably because of all the junk we think we need when we travel! (In the '60s I was able to fit all I needed in an 88, including four jerricans of petrol and six of water to go into the Simpson - and roads are a lot better and communications are better and the amount of traffic is a lot higher now. Today I manage to fill the 110 for a trip to Perth, almost all on good roads!)
