what PTO options were available? i know there were the welder/compresor/V-belt and the shaft to the rear crossmember varieties that mount on the back of the transfer case, but talking to my dad he swears blind he had one mounted to the bottom of the transfer case on his SWB S3
he's still kicking himself for selling it......

The welder and compressor used a multi-vee pulley on the back of the transfer box and ran the belts through the floor to the item being driven in the back. Well that's how I understand it from the drawings

the one i'm talking about actually bolts on underneath
incisor, theres a S3 shorty getting around somewhere with one still fitted...... owner probably doesnt even know!

The "bottom" power take off was used when people had something in the mainshaft PTO hole. In S3 this was often the overdrive unit.

Exactly why lots of people want them, or in some cases for vehicles which have modified/replaced gearboxes on standard transfer cases.which is why i would love one. not taking my toro off

You mean to say, that I can get a grand total of 3 (yes three) PTO's on my S3 Landy?
I have a Daihatsu five speed truck gearbox with a PTO on the left side of the box.
I don't need an O\D sitting on the back, so I can put another PTO there.
And. I can put another PTO on the "bottom?" of the T\case?
Let me see.

capstan winches were available that ran off the crankshaft pulley...... so technically 4 PTO's, and remember, the one that goes through to the rear crossmember can also have the belt drive pulley fitted to it as well!
