Turbo

A week ago I had the engine warning message on the dash display, once in the morning and then on an evening trip. No performance drop however. Today as I accellerated to get onto the freeway I had a message like"all systems shutting down" and no accelerator response(was on the way to the dealer). Stopped and restarted OK for the rest of the trip. However the diagnosis is the Turbo. A new one will be installed Has anyone else had a turbo replaced? I have done 55,000km.

We've replaced a few over the last couple of years. Not many, maybe 5 or 6.

Your dealer will hate you now - the book time is about 4 hrs less than what it takes .

There is a TSB for your symptoms and also no throttle response when trying to accelerate after cruising at 100 km h or so. Action, replace the turbo.
So not such an unusual problem apparently.

There's been some in the UK but it's pretty rare I think. I know LR were a bit embarrassed by the first few and were giving affected customers RR Vogues to drive around in whilst their cars were being fixed.

Yeah, they said they followed the TSB and there were no split hoses etc, so new turbo. Do you know what make it is and what it would cost when out of warranty

New turbo installed. Seems that the lag I sometimes experienced is gone. Maybe that was the beginning of the symptoms with the previous one. I believe the turbo is about $4000. The dealer said this is only the second one they have done and the first one took them 3 days I also had the "watch spring" replaced and got the car back the following day

I recently had a 48,000 service completed on my 2005 TDV6 SE and had the 'watch spring' replaced. I believe it is located in the steering coloumn somewhere. Can anyone advise what it is and what it does please?

It's a clockspring (or spiral cassette).

It's basically just a wiring connector to link the steering wheel to the column.
The wiring is coiled inside the unit to allow for the steering wheel movement.

Hi all,
I have 2 permanent scars from replacing turbo's on these things. The reason why the turbo fails is because of its control module which is part of the turbo. They are made to match each other & cant be brought as seperate components.
Scouse is also correct, wrt time wise...Its all great when the engine is sitting on a test bench
