    Unhappy Heavy Power Steering

Our 05 Def 110 seems to be getting heavier in the steering. I'm not sure if I've gotten used to other cars or it's actually not working so well.

I do think it's getting quite heavy now to the point where you know you're working to turn the wheel, and I don't remember this being the case. I noted it on Fraser IS and in the local streets.

I've checked the tyre pressures and the fluid res. I'm also conscious not to leave it on full lock for more than 40 secs (as per the manual).

Can anyone tell me is this symptomatic of any known problem? The car is still under warranty so I'm sure LR will cover the repair but I was hoping I could go there with a heads up on what it might be.

    Thanks

Check the universal at the end of the steering column - it may be siezed.

I know the one and it looks pretty shiny. I'll spray some CRC on it.

    Any other ideas?

Nope.. no noises other than all the usual ones

It also feels a tad wooden... ie if you turn it it kind of feels as though you're pushing some resistance... like the assistance is running out.

Try your steering damper, mine dropped its guts and the symptoms were the same as you describe.

    Hmm, heavy and wooden.

Aren't driving the Christmas presents around, are you?

Sounds like a job for the Toy Mechanic.

    Cheers
