    Safari Snorkel V8

I've just fitted a Safari snorkel and the air box has been moved slightly to the right so in the instructions it tells me to cut the rubber air duct thing that connects the MAF to the engine because the gap has now been shortened.

The instructions must be wrong and I've buggered up the duct, has anyone else put this snorkel on the V8 ? because now my MAF is sitting above the dipstick and it looks like a strange angle between the MAF and engine... but I cant see what I've done wrong. Is there any tips and tricks I should have known before doing the install ?

hi duncan i did exactly the same thing 3 times where each time i cut a different amount off and it stil didn't fit.
eventually got it with the help of another by only cutting one rib off the right side (i think).
my advise - ignore the instructions, get a mate to apply a little pressure downwards on the airbox the place the pipe over where it needs to be fitted to work out which bit to cut off. cut it and fit with mate still holding down on airbox.

thanks Taff, I'll try it again

I found the instructions pretty useless, it reckoned to drill 16mm holes for the mounting studs, and the studs are only M8's

If its possible could you take a picture of the duct... might make my life a bit easier

EDIT: Where did you get your spare duct from ? a wreckers ?

hi duncan not too sure where you are but my first two came from discovery auto's via barbagallo's about $40 if i remember right and my last came from a disco that i wrecked.

ignore all the dirt it gets used.

your maf looks a little high in your pic so put a bit of down ward pressure on your airbox whilst working out where to cut pipe.

Yes done lots of them, They can be tricky but they work, another trick is to rotate the picp on the air box to get a different angle on the pipe, get it cut then for fitting remove the top of the box to make it easier tighten up the clamps and refit !

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

Duncan, do you have a photo of the whole setup, as I am looking at fitting one of these in the not so distant future. I have seen most of the under bonnet setups, but have not seen the safari snorkel to suit 3.9 V8 with ABS (part number ss390hf, I think). From what I can tell this is what you have just fitted and I would be interested to see the end result. Thanks.

thanks for that picture Taff, I see what you mean now by only cutting one rib each end...

Yeah I'll get some pictures up later on when I've got the duct fixed with the complete setup.
