    Scrapheap Challenge

Not 4x4 (yet), but there's a great show on ABC2 (ABC's second digital channel) on now (6.30pm, I think it's every weekday) called Scrapheap Challenge that would appeal to us backyard builders.

Two teams have a day to build a nominated machine from scrapheap junk and then compete against each other.

The other week they built powerboats - one was powered by a car engine and jetski impeller; the other was a catamaran powered by a motorbike engine.

On now, building gliders that have to fly.

it was one of the best shows on in the UK... they produced some fantastic things... they also did a sideshoot called scrappy races.. some of the beasts built for that were incredible!

incidentally if its the UK version.. notice the presenter (no not the female one although its hard NOT to notice her ) its Kryton from Red dwarf (for those that have seen that too)

    Thanks

It's a great series. Scrappy racers was a ****er and I was amazed by the guys who built a steam engine for a paddleboat from scratch! Be an awesome show to be part of.

fully agree all the offshoots are good, would love to get my hands into the scrappys yards they use, all sorts of project stuff. Even in the yank version.
never noticed who the main presenter was kryton you say will have a good look at the next episode, he is boring, where she well need i say more..( although in the episodes showing at the moment all the finals etc,she is in mid pregnancy, and still looks good!

Last night, March 12, they had a series3 109 6cyl station wagon converted to a streetsweeper. It kept jamming up the conveyor, which was driven by the rear propshaft. All they had to do was put it in 2 wheel drive to clear the backlog, but nobody seemed to know enough about how the Landy worked.

I spend far too much of my life yelling pointlessly at my TV...
