Wannabe Deefer owner doing some homework. This is going to be a bit of a how-long-is-a-piece-of-string question, I'm afraid!

I have driven both a Td5 and a Tdi 300 and while I like both I think I will probably want to go the extra power that is available from fuel pump/intercooler/chip mods (depending on which motor it is). Now the tricky bit: not too surprisingly the 300's I'm looking at have a few k's on them by now. One I'm tempted to look at has about 150,000 km on it. Now, how many k's is too many before you have to be nervous about uping the engine's power output? I realise it's going to depend on the condition of the engine and drivetrain, but how many k's before you really worry? As you'll gather I'm new to diesels and so am after the collective wisdom & experience of the forum.

Thanks!

150K is still a baby for a Tdi. I have customers with over 400K, and I'd happily hop in their vehicles and drive to the cape etc. As far as modding is concerned, Go easy on the fuelling etc around 240K, as the 300Tdi head gaskets get a bit close to the edge at about these Km's. Replace the head gsaket at about this interval and you can do whatever you like, within reason of course...
Great simple little engines these.
I turboed and intercooled my 4BD1 at 450K, and it has now almost reached 500 with no noticeable change in oil consumption or blowby etc.
