    Satelite Interference Fender

I think I have come to the following conclusions as to the problems I have started having since my Satellite Tracking device was fitted to my '08 Defender.
Firstly, since fitted, as soon as the engine immobiliser is de-activated there is a ticking sound coming from the speaker inside the instrument cluster.
When I watch one of our free to air channels on television ( the vehicle is parked just opposite our television) I am getting a disturbance flick across the screen at the same frequency of the ticking on the speaker.
When I disconnected the battery and leave it off for about 3 hours the interference on the TV stops I assume because the back up battery on the sat. device runs flat.
The other problem was the trailer light illuminating when the hazards are on and no trailer connected.
I think that the technician may have used the hazard circuit to run his positive feed to the tracker and it therefore registers additional resistance in the circuit and activates the trailer light assuming there are extra globes in the circuit.
I am going to run my theory past them as soon as they open this morning and see if they agree.
    Any thoughts from the forum?
    Cheers
    James

    Thumbs up gone

Seems that overnight the tracker has stopped sending out that interferance signal and all is quiet.
Might have been that the tracker battery is fully charged and this may be why it was pulsing during it's full charge up.
I still have the trailer light flashing with the hazards but I might just live with that seing as the more people seem to fiddle the more problems I end up getting.
The radio is also behaving itself now.
I hope now I can sleep easy for a while.

It's hard to see from your avatar but you have a bull bar fitted with built in indicators? If so these can often make the trailer lights flash on the dash as they are obviously extra load to the "normal" cicuit.

    final closure on this fault

I finally managed to speak to the right person at NetStar who was very knowledgeable and friendly unlike the fitment centre. The chap told me that during the first few days of fitment, the unit gives a constant signal so the satellite can ensure they find the unit and test that it works under all conditions. He said the aerial wire was probably running too close to the dashboard and radio wires and was causing an inductive type current in these systems. He said if I wished I could have the aerial moved but the signal had now stopped and would only re-appear if activated when stolen.
He also told me that the power supply to the tracker is taken from the trailer circuit so as not to interfere with other vehicle systems if there is a fault and will only blow the trailer fuse. This would be why the unit is picked up as additional resistance in the hazard light circuit.
    Thanks for advice.
    James

PS no indicators in bull bar
