    08 Defender Sump

    Hi,

Well my new defender should hopefully turn up this week!

I was wondering what the improved sump looks like so I can see if I have to jump up and down or not to get it replaced.

    Any Pics?

    Hi Xavie,
If you don't have yours I hope it's not getting fixed...

haha. Well, issue is just being sorted as it has now been worked out. It's going to be a great vehicle when it comes out of the shop.

Here are some pics - I haven't got any wheel ramps so it's not easy getting the photos. Basically, the side of the sump near the diff is shaped to allow more clearance - so when cross axeled to the max nothing can hit the sump pan.

Well I'm going to stick mine on some ramps cross-axled and see just how much clearance we're talking about. I'll take some pix too.

I've had my Defender cross axled off road - fairly severely - but didn't get any witness marks on the pan. I've had mine changed to be sure. I would imagine this new sump pan is now standard on 08 models.

I very much doubt you will be able to even detect any clearance difference using wheel ramps - but look forward to your report and pics.

Yeah - I don't expect it to hit. I'm just curious to see how little clearance there actually is before you factor in movement of the engine, drivetrain and other things when bumping along off-road.
