    gearbox nightmare

I am trying to put a lt77 from an '85 RR into an '86 body but the linkage system for the gear lever appears different, and does not fit into the hole in the floor. How do I overcome this problem. I do not have an '86 manual gearbox. Can I just find an '86 lever linkage or do I have to change the extension housing etc? Any Ideas, as I am fresh out.

being the person I am I think I would just cut a hole in the tunnel, (box cover/floor pan) to allow the new linkage/box to be installed then patch it up with some aluminium plate afterwards?
