Question Road Conditions - Outback NSW

    Hey All,

I'm shooting off on a approx 5000km journey around Western NSW, SW QLD and SA in about a weeks time. I'm just checking if any locals to any of these areas or anyone who has travelled through recently know of any road closures or anything else of note?

    Our rough itinerary:
    Sydney - Forbes
    Forbes - White Cliffs
    White Cliffs - Tiboburra
Tiboburra - Innaminka [via Bore Track]
Innaminka - Arkaroola [via Old and New Strezlecki tracks]
    Arkarolla - Leigh Creek
    Leigh Creek - Warraweena
Warraweena - Yunta - Broken Hill
    Broken Hill - Forbes
    Forbes - Sydney

So if anyone knows of anything of interest in any of these general areas, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll be putting a full trip report in the next AULROvian newsletter when i get back so everyone canb read about it then.

    Cheers
    CaptJimmy

We came across from Cobar to Nevertire via Nymagee over Easter and the roads were OK even with some rain. Might be worth considering going Forbes - Condobolin - Cobar, it's a nice drive.

Just keep an eye on weather conditions - a lot of that, particularly in NW NSW is very flat, and moderate rainfall can close roads for quite a while. Several of the councils in the area close all unsealed roads after rain to prevent damage, and particularly in winter it can take a long time to dry out. Even sealed roads can be blocked, again for long periods, by rain runoff blocking low level bridges over creeks.

The Best People to ring is the the local police as they now whats open and whats not. On our trip out to Cordillo Downs And Birdsville We were advised not to go to Innamincka and up due to the cause way still rising as it had rained the night before some ware in the North This was around easter time .
IF it was me I would be letting some one know my ware abouts out there. When we arrived in Birdsville Some half wit was trying to get up the service station attendant because they don't have mobile phone service.
Try not to travel at night also as Black cows love to camp an the road at night found this out going into Thargominda Had to slow down a fair bit.
Do not try to out drive the locals as the all drive like the just stool some thing. Take two spares as tires arn't easy to come by unless you drive a Toyota or Nissan, one of the locals got two flats in one day .
All in all had a great trip out and back And meet plenty of nice people out their
Will do it all again some time in the future

i did this track three years, really enjoyed one part where you drive across a big open flat area, similar to a shallow lake that is empty, it has soft powery dust which left a massive dust cloud behind the rig.

from memoey $20 to the station owner at the start of the track.....or was it $10 buckscannot remember

    have a good trip

dare you to go for a swim in the cooper, in september it was freezing cold
