    Winch on D2

For those of you that have winches on their D2, does the winch bolt to the winchbar or to the chassis behind the crush cans?
My bar is a TJM T15 winchbar which apparently needs a frame, available from TJM for $200 or so, to install the winch. Does anybody have any detail on the frame? I would prefer to make it myself.

    Best regards
    Phill

Although not a D2 i have a TJM bar on mine with the cradle that bolts to the chassis, the crush cans protrude past the cradle and the bar then mounts to them.

Thanks mate, so the winch bolts to the cradle and the cradle bolts to the chassis? Any chance i could have a look at your winch set-up sometime?

    Cheers

No probs, i must add though that my bar is alloy and doesnt have any crush cans fitted - i was told alloy bars dont need them, right or wrong i dont mind as i only have driver airbag anyway.

Interesting. Maybe that's why my P38A alloy bull bar is marked airbag compatible.

My alloy bar(D2) is marked as airbag compatible for a D2.No crush cans fitted.
Interesting that the winch is fitted seperately to the chassis,Ive not bothered looking into winches due to needing to change the bullbar as well. One could get a cradle,or make one and just cut the hole in the bar for the fairlead
Something else to spend $$$$ on

I modified my winch cradle to allow the winch to be dropped out the bottom without having to remove the bbar. I cut the bottom out of the cradle then welded tabs to it that bolt to the side and back of the rest of the cradle. I also bolted a tow hook to each side of the cradle - they point down slightly and poke out slightly below the bar.

Hmmmph! Previous owner fitted nice big ARB bar but did not get the winch bar, so haven't pursued this as would mean cost of winch plus new bar

Visit ARB 2Rocks.It may well be the only difference in the ARB winch bar and the non in a D2 is the slot and the seperate cradle.
Has your D2 got the ARB recovery points????
If not I know of a set in WA that have been donated to AULRO for fundraising. These are D2 ARB bullbar specific recovery points, and only bolt onto such a beast.
Let me know if you are interested we can work out a price.
