    Tru Track vs Detriot

    Hi all
Have been reading the Shopping Trolley thread on Tru-Trac & Detriot
    I run a standard 3.9V 1990 Rangie / open centers

To get the right "kits", Do you need the (axle) spline count or "one fits all

Have been wanting to set up with Detroit Locker @ rear & Tru-trac @ front
What are pro's & con's of this (combination) setup?? / (other than if you got stuck, your never getting out)

    Thank's in advance
    Mike

Well I have a Maxi Drive in my 92 and had a Detroit in my old 77.
First off you will need Jacmac or Maxi rear axles as you will break 12 splines. I started off with standard axles, broke one at Mt Walker , then twisted 2 in the Nissan Trials.
Th eonly other things are the detroit characteristics, clunk sometimes on takeoff, tighten line if change gear accelerating through a curve, reluctant to turn in mud, slide toward down hill if side sloping.

I have a Quiafe front which is torque biassing diff same at Truetrac. So far I haven't been off road but only quirk seem so be a gear noise on overrun at about 50-60Kmh, and that may be because it is an old diff.

    Thanks for that Phillipa

There are many setup's & combinations available and a guess i am trying to work out what is the best combo for me. I believe i already have "Fine spline" axels

I mainly do sand runs rather than mud (don't have the tyres for it)

Because i am unwilling to cut the guards for bigger tyres (31",32",33") and want to stick to my aftermarket 15x7 mags (tyres = 265x70x15) I am looking for better performance in sand and less driveline stress.
Basically, when all else fails, i just want to put my foot down & plow it outa there

    Combo 1
Detroit (for rear) is an aggresive type of diff where as tru-trac (for front) is much more forgivable, with this combo i feel that this would not "bog down in th dirt" as does "open centers"
(I understand that the car will be hard to turn in bog patches as does locked diffs ?? but feathering the gas pedal will get it to turn as i do with open centers ??)

    Combo 2
    Tru-trac to front & rear

    Combo 3
Diff lock front and rear / can't have this "on" all the time for fear of binding up the drive-line & also have to stop in the bad patch to engage (don't like this idea cause i've seen too many bodies left to the ocean)

Found this article on True Track and other Diffs Good read and links.
With Your experience did you have to apply the brake when a wheel was in the air to have the true track to lock similar to Torsen dif in the Hummers
    (H1). http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/TrueTrac.shtml:)
