    07 Defender security code

    Hi all,

In the manual for the new defender it talks about a security code to start the car if you loose, or the battery goes flat, the remote control. I asked MLR about it and they said it was not used. I have noticed a thread on another forum saying it is. Has anyone asked their dealer about it

"The only issue which has arisen concerns the security codes for the radio and the ignition (for starting when you remote control blipper thingy has gone wrong). These were missing from the documentation pack and my sales exec has just retrieved this information. Ask your sales exec, a couple of weeks before delivery, to check they are present and correct in the documentation pack. I wonder how many other new owners don't even know they are lacking this info? I suspect this is not a one-off exception. "

As far as I am aware the vehicle security code is still used, as well as the Land Rover branded stereo security code. The keyless entry system is unchanged from the previous model. I am sure I checked this when I got mine as it is somethig I had to use a couple of times with my previous Defender.

Now if I had mine back from the dealer where it is getting warranty work done I would be able to confirm whether or not I do actually have my codes, but alas.....

There most definitely is a code for the new Defender - I just rang Austral and got mine! Your dealer is wrong - ring them again and insist they find the code and give it to you.

PS - Thanks for the tip.

Shhh, new cars don't need warranty work done.......especially white Defenders .

BTW Mahn, a white 110 arrived here yesterday - is it yours by chance ?
(Our system won't give me the new owner's name yet)

The Air Conditioner...... AGAIN. Same problem as before - core icing up. It seemed to work for a couple of months after they fixed it then started doing it again.

Apparently mine is not the only one as the dealers have another with the same recurring problem which they are not going to even start fixing until they know why. The issue has been escalated to Land Rover UK for a fix.

I can feel a recall coming on...

I know we've discussed this together before - but my AC worked all day each day through a very hot summer driving home from Victoria at Christmas - and I have never experienced this problem since, either. So I'm not sure it will be a recall issue.

    Security Card/code info

Back on to the security codes: I raised the non-issue of the Security Card with my sales rep and he looked up my 07 Defender in the LR system and found no codes listed for the radio or the engine; he opined that they were not used due to ADR. I have asked him to check this so I am very interested in other peoples experience on this issue. It seems quite fundamental to me that it should be fitted with this type of anti-theft technology.

    Cheers

    Boots
