Don't use Windows at all? There are other browsers except Firefox once you get away from Windows. I have no problems with Konqueror, the browser that comes with the KDE desktop.

ok i dont want to go away from IE, and i cannot go away from windows either. i need windows for the Media system i use, for the CAD software i use and because i know how to use it. I use IE for convenience, nothing more and its my reason for staying with it, i dont want to be adding more software to the barebone software pc's.

so apart from dont use IE and dont use windows.. does anyone else have this issue with IE or have they fixed it? and no i wont use a MAC either

    Thanks

All of those sites are from last year or 2006.

I'd uninstall/reinstall, update Java, run MS update.

Opera is another great browser, and significantly faster than IE.

cant get any fresher than a brand spanking new install of XP with all service packs (except 3) and hotfixes. Also very very latest java which didnt help one bit...

i thought the fresh install would help... and was forced into doing one via my own stupidity, and yes it was a fresh install not an install over the top.. partition deleted, recreated etc etc..

    i'll ignore the opera comment

    Thanks

Havent had that particular problem but some others over the years.
What usually works for me besides re-installing windows, is to go into
Control Panel, System restore, date back 2 or 3 days and re-boot the
thing. Works 9 out of 10.
    Cheers.

you will find once you give it a chance and use firefox for a week or three its 100000x more convenient because it never randomly crashes (IME over 2 years) uses less CPU time and is tons quicker.

you can just remove IE totally from your barebone software PCs and import all the favorites and settings from IE if you want to. in the long run, this IS the best solution.

convenience is a bad reason to stick to something thats not very... well... convenient?
