Gas/LPG injection can't be fitted to a RR 2000 4.6 HSE ? ? ?

I know people have installed sequential gas injection on their Rangies yet the Guys I put my car into at the Gold coast told me today after inspecting it that they can't fit OMVL Gas injection to a 2000 4.6 as quote " they can't fit the gas injection inlets under the manifold. The alternative would be to have injector lines a foot long which would result in poor poor performance "

Is this a load of ....... as their busy or is there some justification to this ? They are trying to sell me on the old style of conversion instead. I am extremely reluctant to go down this road, given some of the posts on blowing airboxes up etc.

To the owners that have had it installed can you recommend a brand, company to install on the coast and ideally send me a photo of your set up ?

Hi,
Do not use the old gas system it will backfire on the rover engine.

Only use the injection system, some places do not like the injection because it takes time for them to make up the brackets to fit it to your car. Some places will only do the injection system as they never get backfires/compaints.

The place I went to in Sydney for my Disco had a RR 200? 4.6 HSE that was converted, it was so well done that they were using it as a sales pitch to me to pay the extra for injection - it worked.

Contact the australian lpg warehouse as they are the importers of EuroGas and they will be able to tell you who can fit an injection System in your area.

There are two types of injection System for the P38, Deacon Autos in Melbourne look like they do a great conversion, they put the injectors on top of each rocker cover (I think). They were telling me that the early GEMS just uses the cheaper system, because you don't get the benefits. On the Bosch the ECU is a lot smarter and can use a later more advanced system. Sorry can't remember the names of either system.

I had the old system on my previous RR with no problems in 5 years. I had it on my GEMS P38A and had back fire problems (at times, massive airbox destroying backfires) - until I changed the engine that had the slipped liner. After that I never had another backfire.

I now have sequential gas injection on the P38A.

I'll ask my local guys, I'm sure they have done a Thor V87. I think this thread is a tad old and that James (Captain) has now had his P38A converted by Davis Performance Landys

I would think that if it has lasted this long, then it was properly installed in the first place.

hopefully,you will never have a backfire.none of our work vans,which all have the 'old' systm have had a backfire in the last 5 yrs.

they were all done from new,& have been virtually trouble free(although mine did have a new computer recently)

if backfires do occur,it is often a fault with plugs or leads.

I reckon backfiring is overrated. I have the older style - mixer - system on my 95 and my 2002. On the 02 the way mine has been set up the LPG solenoids cut out when the computer would normally cut the injectors - ie no throttle costing over 2000rpm...you could probably avoid this but my set up didnt. So..when you go to accelerate hard after the solenoids were off there is a slight hic - hesitation and then your back in business. The only time it backfired was when I coasted down a long hill and forgot about it and then floored the throttle - but I have backfire devices fitted (from an LPG supplier) that allow spring loaded sealing in 2 parts of the box so no damage.

Apart from that if your electrical system is well maintained you should have no problems.

The vapour injection is superior, but the mid way point of a Lambda Controlled main gas tap and idle tap as on my 02 is a good compromise and much cheaper. It changes over on the tacho at 1200rpm automatically on petrol start up. I get 19.5-20 litres per 100k on LPG in and out to town - 5 speed manual. I doubt Vi would better that - or by enough to make it worthwhile. If I were doing it again - with the new systems around; they were not when I had mine done - I would go injection. But if there was no kit I would probably still go a LC unit converter and mixer.
