Unhappy New Defender Towing Fuel Consumption

Just to make you Td5 owners feel better - towing the new defender sucks.

I just towed the boat down to Portland over the weekend and the poor girl wouldn't get over 80kph and that is running a bigger intercooler as well. The fuel consumption was 20l /100km.

My Td5 standard used to pull a 100 for about 19l/100km and when it was chipped and intercooled had no trouble with 100k/h and consumption came down to 17l/100km. Even standard the Td5 felt like it wanted to pull, where as the 4 does not want to go anywhere.

    Who does TdV6 conversions again????

get it chipped then!!!.....there are ecu flashes available for the puma now...i was also always under the impression that if you fitted a large intercooler that you had to tweek fuel delivery to get the economy back or at least thats what i was told is this true???...or just a wives tale.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

    What's It weigh?

Towed mine back from Albany, 458km trip doing about 14.4 lt/100km,6th gear with the occasional change back to 5th to maintain 100kph. All up weight 1000Kg.

Was planning to get it chipped - intercooler only there already as it came out of my Td5.

The car has done about 3500km so I agree it might loosen up with time.

The boat is a 6.5m plate alloy cuddy cabin and it weights about 2.5tonne.
